Super Reborn-ers,
Thank you for this wonderful distro.
After a lot of distro-hoping I have settled down to this beautiful Os, as it has a great balance between an Arch system and super friendly settings.
I have just bought a Thinkpad E14 Gen2 with a Ryzen 7 - 4700 processor.
I need step by step instructions of how to remove the Windows 10 that are installed by default and then install Reborn.
I know that I must disable fast boot, secureboot and I must enable the UEFI only option.
Should I choose the ZFS option? How can I safely remove windows and install Reborn?
Please, I need your help!
Phil
Hi Phil!
The first thing we have to observe is that the warranty of your computer may depend on the existence of Windows installed on it.
Ideally, it would be to make a backup of the installation. At this point, I inform you that I have not been a Windows user for many years.
To disable Secure Boot, I found the following video. See if it is useful to you:
How to Enable or Disable Secure Boot on Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkStation & ThinkCentre Systems
Then your computer has the existence of a “Security Chip”, something that I do not know if it has any influence in the case of wanting to install Linux.
What I would try first, before removing anything, is to disable Secure Boot, and test if your computer boots correctly from a USB port with the RebornOS installer. If the installer loads without errors, and you manage to access GNOME, you can close the installer, and first test in GNOME LIVE if everything works correctly, before proceeding to remove Windows.
To boot from USB, turn on or restart your computer, then when the logo screen is displayed, press F12. The Boot Menu window
opens. Select the USB port where the RebornOS installer is.
Maybe (it’s just a thought of mine) you should also disable the “Security Chip” option. I leave you below the steps to activate it that I have obtained from a manual that I downloaded for a model similar to yours, and what you should do is, instead of Activate, Deactivate the Secure Chip (this if the LIVE of the installer does not reach you function).
Cut from the manual:
“2. Ensure that the security chip is set to Active.
a. Restart the computer. When the logo screen is displayed, press F1 to enter the UEFI BIOS menu.
b. Select Security âž™ Security Chip and press Enter. The Security Chip submenu opens.
c. Ensure that the security chip for TPM 2.0 is set to Active.
d. Press F10 to save the settings and exit.”
As I’ve told you before, I’d run these tests first to make sure your computer boots up correctly with RebornOS, before deleting anything.
And as I told you before too, I would see how to perform the Windows backup, in case at some point you have to resort to the guarantee (I don’t know if Lenovo gives a guarantee if your computer has another system. I think not).
I hope you are well!
Greetings from the RebornOS Team
Thank you for the detailed answer!
Ok, I 'll give it a go and see what happens…
I hope you are well too!
