Hello! In short. I want to switch from Win to Linux. I tried several Linux distros, in the end the RebornOS too. I wanted the system to be really fast, I bought an SSD drive. Here something very strange happened, after several installations (always partition, install) the installed system does not start! I thought maybe the SSD was not good. I installed Windows 7 on it, it worked. I deleted Windows and installed a Manjaro Linux, it also worked. Please help, what could be the reason? Gigabyte GA-B75M-DEH motherboard Intel i5 3200MHz proc. 24Gb 1600MHz RAM, Zotac GT640 video card. After installation, it says “triggering udev” and the monitor goes dark. The machine only starts with a reset. Now a Manjaro distro works on this SSD.
Which desktop environment did you install?
Some desktop environments are currently broken due to package changes. Will release an online fix for that soon
I am unsure what the problem is yet. Was there any error during installation? We may send out an online update soon with some changes to the paclage lists (1-2 days). I will notify you when that happens.
Thank you very much for your help. The only interesting thing is that it worked when installed on HDD. I just wanted the boot time to be shorter, so I bought an SSD. I am completely at a loss.
Thank you Petrushka
Once you install Reborn there should be a button there to save the install logs. Those would be of great help. Since you removed Windows I would suggest you wipe the drive again, and this time before you do your reboot launch whatever browser is in the live ISO, goto a pastebin site, post the above logs, and copy the link for the logs here. Then if you can from a terminal enter inxi -F and post the output here using ~~~ above and ~~~ below the text.
EDIT:
If for some reason we can’t get Reborn running for you I would suggest Garuda over Manjaro. The Manjaro devs and more than a small part of there forum members are just rude, and Garuda doesn’t have the issues Manjaro does.
@shivanandvp it may be a matter of the OP selecting items to install that aren’t compatible with other items that are auto-installed. I went through that if you remember.
It works, ReborOS!! I tried another Linux and it turned out that the desktop does not fill the screen. I turned off the PC and took out the (Zotac GT-640) video card, the motherboard has an integrated Intel video card. After starting, RebornOS works perfectly for 13 seconds, and all other OSes that I installed.
I apologize for the language errors and possible inaccuracies!
Thank you again for your patience and help!
I tried the latest version, but it doesn't work! My opinion is that the new version doesn't support old BIOS boards. Sincerely, this cannot be changed. Until now, Linux versions supported old, weaker machines. Unfortunately, it looks like this is over! I'm very sorry. Thank you.
That's exactly why I want Linux OS instead of Windows. I tried to install it more than 5 times on an older non-UEFI motherboard. The installation
goes through, but there is no
"MBR"! The same installer
goes up on a "UEFI" motherboard
without any errors.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Well I would have liked to give you a link to go to the Rebornos wiki, but I keep getting the message that the server is down. So here is a something from another OS that also uses calamares as a installer.
Lets hope this will work for you
Older Bios Systems:
If you can only boot into CSM (Compatibility Support Module) or on real older non-efi Bios systems.
This could be the case if Windows is installed in that mode already, and you do not want to reinstall Windows in EFI mode.
You have 2 Options here:
First Option: is the old standard using the MBR (Master Boot Record, first sector of a hard disk):
Bootloader will get written into the MBR of a msdos partition table, here you need only one System Partition,
