Testing the development ISO

Dear users,

If you are interested in testing the development ISO, please use this. It is on Google Drive. You can try it out on a VM.

Your feedback can help improve RebornOS for yourself, and for everyone else :superhero:.

Hi @paul , it is not on the website. It is on the Google Drive link that I posted. Here is the link in full form:

Click on the Download button when you arrive on the page

I forgot to mention the changes:

  • Refreshed the ISO and installer from upstream for new features and bug fixes.
  • Minor fixes in the installer and live environment aesthetics - fonts are now better suited for readability on larger screens too.
  • The live environment should now work better on Qemu VMs (Scaling the window now works!, among other things).
  • A new comprehensive list of optional non-AUR gaming packages in the advanced screen.
  • Updated package lists to reflect the latest shenanigans than Arch Linux repositories are up to.
  • Cinnamon and MATE will have fixes coming soon, but they will be released as skel packages and you will only be able to test it later when they are in our repository. Please wait for our repository update with the new v1.1.1 of rebornos-cinnamon-skel and rebornos-mate-skel before installing Cinnamon and MATE, as fixes are going to be coming soon.

I have tested Gnome, KDE Plasma, Budgie, Xfce, Cinnamon, and MATE.

always this message…

404. That’s an error.

Ohh. I am so sorry. It might be available after waiting a bit. Google might be limiting downloads.

yeah but it is weird
I tried it more than a dozen times — from yesterday afternoon to this morning

maybe Google doesn’t like me :joy:

You may need to give it a rest, like a gap of a day and then try. Google might be using programs to block repeated attempts. So trying frequently might just worsen it.

That’s why I don’t like these proprietary provider…

I install UKUI desktop then ( never tried before  )
… will be reporting soon

… the VIRTUALBOX installation went very well, but as in the system, I met major issues with the installed system UKUI …

info

As for myself I would always install KDE but this already has been tested, so I thought
I deviate from my preference for testing

How relevant are those for this report, and should I put them here or better Discord or Telegram or
somewhere else ?

@ycom1
This topic is about the installer and the live environment (ISO) experiences. The general usability of the desktop (except for any missing packages) is not handled in the installer.

Such issues are handled within packages. A more appropriate place to post would be to create a new topic under Bugs - RebornOS Forums and we’ll address whatever we can through our packages without having to rewrite upstream code  .

If you do have any issues with the live environment, or with the installer, or with what the installer installs, then this topic is the right place.

Installation report ISO 2024 02 12:

installation and live media all super smooth, no problems at all, :sparkler:

the system UKUI desktop is on the other hand practically not usable

because of problems with the windowing system. That includes problems

with dragging windows, applying desktop settings and so on …

info

I installed 3 times:
1 x Virtualbox
1 x on real hard drive
1 x on real hard drive with exhaustive Ukui desktop selection

my system is a AMD Ryzen PC with Radeon
grafics card

did now test the development ISO [ DE = xfce ]
the live-version works as requested,
the installer did everything as it should do
summary of the test run on VirtualBox —> no issues

What about systemd-boot? Is this now (finally) there?

@paul Thanks for testing :slight_smile:

Thanks for testing @ycom1  . I checked out UKUI with the packages available on Arch Linux and it does indeed seem like dragging system windows is not working. I see that the upstream Git repository for the window manager was updated 4 years ago. Perhaps we should remove UKUI from the list of desktops that we offer because they are not updating their code.

I would say too : - ) …

Moin,
i try the KDE Plasma installation. The installation went as expected without any problems,
only the printer installation point is missing again.
