LXDE install problem

I’m in the process of installing every RebornOS DE that appeals to me, which is about two thirds of the total. I’ve had no issue whatsoever installing the KDE, XFCE, Budgie, and MATE, but when I got to LXDE, the install hangs after laying down around 475mb of files on a BTRFS partition. After the second try I thought maybe there was a misalignment in the partition (random hope there), so I went to another partition. No luck after three tries.

I’ve moved on to LXQt for the last install of the night, using one of the same partitions from the LXDE attempt, and tomorrow evening I plan to try the LXDE install on another drive entirely, but I was curious if anyone else has had the same issue. I’m using the same basic install list on each DE with no alterations other than adding the “exhaustive” desktop option for each. And as I type this the LXQt installation is proceeding without a hitch, far beyond where LXDE died…oh…it just completed.

I’ll update with my progress or lack of tomorrow night.

It would be great uf you can share install logs of the failed installation. The installer provides you a choice to upload it to a paste site.

If I have another crash tomorrow night I’ll post it here, but I’ll update everyone either way. Thanks for the reply!

Ok, I’ve tried another install, and it failed. It gave me a Package Manager error, and the details were "The package manager could not make changes to the installed system. The command

pacman
returned error code 1. Then it asked if I wanted to post the install log to the web. Next is the resulting log…

Actually I can’t post the entire log. The system won’t allow it. Are there maybe more important areas of the log that I could cut-paste?

Where are you at? On the ISO?

Yes, on the ISO. I have another laptop up, and I went to the link provided, and copied the entire log into safe storage in Notion. I can give you whichever parts you suggest.

I looked toward the end and found this:

The only alteration I made to the “stock” program setup checklist was to add the exhaustive desktop check. Is there a conflict in the setup that’s on the ISO maybe?

I installed the KDE, Cutefish, LXQT, XFCE, MATE, and Budgie DE’s in exactly the same way with no problems.

The list has some packages that also conflict with the default desktop packages (you should select only one of the conflicting packages. You should choose to use either lxdm or lxdm-gtk3, not both). The default selection for desktops works okay and you can add additional packages if you know what they do. That is why that installer screen/page is named “Advanced” :slightly_smiling_face:

No sarcasm implied here, seriously, but does that mean I just got lucky with the other six installs? I selected the exhaustive feature there too without de-selecting anything, and no problems.

It is hard to say which packages conflict with which other packages without letting the package manager check it out. Manually the process is impractical for hundreds of packages.

But the “curated” list is selected carefully by us and tested to provide a good basic desktop experience based on referring to the Arch Wiki and other suggestions from desktop devs.

However, users who know about additional packages that they want to have can select them from the exhaustive list. It contains everything that is known to work with the desktop, but some of those packages may be replacements of default desktop components. If they turn out to be replacements, they will conflict with the packages in the curated list. You were lucky to have installed the lists which did not conflict :slightly_smiling_face:
