I’m looking into other distros. Rebornos looks awesome.
What are your guys long term plans? Do you guys plan on maintaining reborn in the foreseeable future?
Do you guys use your own repos? I saw you have someone hosting a reborn repository but I wonder how many apps it has. Can I still use the aur repo and the main arch repos? I saw flatpak support, I think.
Hi @Garyghost , RebornOS is an easy way to onboard onto using Arch Linux. RebornOS is fully compatible with Arch Linux (the process of installation is in line with the Arch Wiki), and can be converted to Arch Linux by removing the custom repository (which has some select AUR packages) and some files. We continue to maintain the installer.
That being said, we are unsure about the future, as we are heading into a completely different regulatory landscape concerning new age-verification legislation, that will come into effect in 2027, and there would be associated penalties. We are unable to implement any such age verification and may provide our users a script to convert RebornOS to Arch Linux so that there is no inconvenience. We are not an organization and we are not a commercial entity. We are just a bunch of people who have been sharing a modification of Arch Linux that we use, so that others can also benefit from using Linux in the spirit of Open Source Software.
If you ask me, the responsibility should be placed on the parents of the children who use computers, and the government which should be passing laws to have OSes include parental controls that can be enabled to protect children. The current state of affaires seems to me to be that governments are taking the path of least resistance rather than seeking truly workable and long term solutions!
