just a little question to throw in, why Discord, why not something like Mastodon?
Discord is being criticized a lot in actual times …
I understand your question but I’m afraid I was not around at the time to answer why discord was chosen however. Mastodon is not really an alternative as its a social media platform more relating to Twitter, We did look at Matrix and Revolt both are opensource chat solutions and we may open a server on 1 of them in the future. If i had to take a wild guess on why Keegan picked Discord at the time it’s prob because it was very popular and most users already had an account on it.
yes in the old days Discord was liked and popular, anyhow not a big deal,
just being curious.
I know only that Revolt is an open-source alternative to Discord, since Matrix is so absolutely “paranoid” , I would prefer Revolt, just my opinion I do not want to interfere, just spreading my opinion
I think popularity might have been the main reason. Not many users would create an account on a new platform. Discord has been quite popular with programmers, gamers, and casual users. So it stuck.
