VLC does not launch graphical interface

I installed vlc, seemed to install fine, but when firing up nothing happens. The cli for vlc seems to be there, but no graphical interface.

I looked on the web, someone said to install qt5-wayland, but that did not work.

Its a fresh install of RebornOS, no packeages apart from VLC have been added, and its not updated - I thought I would install one package to see if RebornOS was OK.

Thanks for any help/ideas.

blind

sudo pacman -S vlc-plugins-all

Try that cause there was a recent issue with VLC.

Thanks for the reply/help.

I tried what you suggest, but ran into another problem, not with vlc, but a conflicting packages message/error - so for now thats it, I dont know how to deal with that.

Thanks

can you post the output you got so we can take a look?

Hi,

I got over that conflicy by using ‘pacman -Rns package’.

But that line you gave tries to upgrade the system, where I just want to get VLC to work. So I typed ‘pacman -S vlc-plugins-all’, which did not work.

So I was forced to use the full ;ine, to upgrade the system, but that didnt work either, as it downloade the packages then faild to upgrade as it complained about ‘linux-firmware-nvidia’. I removed nvidia, tried to upgrade again, but got same refusal/

Beginning to look like a lost cause, oity really as it seems quite fast and smooth.

All the best - blind.

That line does not try to update the system. you need -Syu NOT -S.

That said PLEASE launch Konsole and type inxi -F, then copy the output and post it like mine below. Place 3 ~~~ above and below the text from you Konsole output.

BTW I realise that -S does not update,

Another BTW I tried again ‘pacman -Syu vlc-plugins-all’ with agan no success. This is the end output:-

Hope it help.

I would wipe the drive / partition and install selecting Plasma not XFCE.

Hi,

Yeah, I tried installing using the installation from web - but that
failed, so I went with installing from the install medium - all seemed
fine.

But I took the opportunity of using pacmam to find if rebornos has the
packages I use - it does not.

I dont know whether they could be installed some other way, but I dont
think I will be making that effort.

All the best.

All I know is I just did fresh installs of Reborn on my and my roomates machines and when the VLC issue came up I just install what I suggested above.

Easier workaround is to simply install smplayer and smplayer-skins. I have been using it instead of VLC for years. No fuss no muss.

The error you get while installing requires manual intervention:

Check out this link while explains how to fix the problem: Arch Linux - News: linux-firmware >= 20250613.12fe085f-5 upgrade requires manual intervention

Yeah, I thought of smplayer aswell.

BTW have had trouble with other distros, usually fue to gtk2 and qt5-style-plugins not working.

all the best - blind

With the lastest upgrade was able to download and get VLC running - so I suppose this is solved
