Install Error with XFCE

Hello Everyone,

I complete installation of RebornOS (2026.01.22-x86_64) with KDE in a VM. After that I tried to install it with XFCE on an old Acer 1810TZ, and get an error.

I did the same thing in a VM (Reborn and XFCE) and get the same error.

However, I managed to install the offline version.

Here is the error from install.log:

16:24:39 [1]: void Calamares::ViewManager::onInstallationFailed(const QString&, const QString&)

Have an idea ?

it says package manager error --… I have had installed the same ISO successfully , but I did not changed
the default packages preselection.

I only selected Xfce; the rest of the installation is default.

I tried the installation again in English in VMware, same error, here is the English version:

06:11:35 [1]: void Calamares::ViewManager::onInstallationFailed(const QString&, const QString&)
ERROR: Installation failed: “Package Manager error”
.. - message: “Package Manager error”
.. - details: The package manager could not make changes to the installed system. The command pacman -S --noconfirm --noprogressbar …(same list of packages as french version) …xfce4-datetime-plugin feh returned error code 1.

06:11:36 [6]: void Calamares::ViewManager::onInstallationFailed(const QString&, const QString&)

Perhaps the package list needs to be updated in the installer. Arch might have changed something yet again. I will be traveling tomorrow, but I can send that the day after

I made an online test install, going for KDE, because you already stated XFCE offline install
worked as it is, I had no errors, it worked well … maybe an issue with the ssd or network on your end ?

As said in my first post, I started by installing KDE in a VM, and it is working very well, this is only XFCE online that seems to be not working. However, I haven’t tried the other versions.

I guess you need to uncheck the xfce-datetime-plugin in the XFCE packages selection,
this is an end-of-lice package, Arch has dropped … I make a test installation with
this de-selected, and report back …

… affirmative - the problem was Arch has dropped the package xfce-datetime-plugin
if you deselect it in xfce miscellaneous the installer completes :slight_smile: !

It was xfce-datetime-plugin, thank you so much :grinning_face:

welcome to the forum, glad it worked :slight_smile:
